Bangkok Rooftop Bars: the top 12 must-sees

Thanks to its countless skyscrapers throughout the city and a pleasant night climate all year round, Bangkok is the dream city for lovers of rooftop bars, or outdoor roof terraces. By Bangkok rooftop bars, we mean a bar and/or restaurant, at least partially in the open air, nestled on a terrace or the roof of a building of at least a few floors. Bangkok rooftop bars = Prices and high floors. The more the bar is located on a high floor, the more it will tend to be impressive and elitist, and therefore expensive, even very expensive for the most famous of them. Thus, according to this definition, counting the small, secret and distant from the city center, the megalopolis has no less than forty Rooftop bars! To find your way around, here is our selection of the must-see rooftop bars in Bangkok

The Mahanakhon Skywalk, Bangkok’s newest highlight

The Mahanakhon SkyWalk is the highest observation deck in Bangkok and Thailand. It offers a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of the city from Bangkok’s tallest building on the 74th, 75th and 78th floors of the King Power Mahanakhon building. For thrill seekers, the new attraction which opened its doors to the public on November 16, 2018 also includes one of the largest glass floors in the world, overhanging the void. The observatory is open daily from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with last admission at 11 p.m. The bar is located on the 78th floor: admission price 1050 THB to also visit the terrace and the glass floor

Above Eleven, Sukhumvit soi 11

As its name suggests, Above Eleven overlooks the famous soi 11 (Sukhumvit) from the top of its 36 floors. Located on the terrace of the Frazer Suite building, a rather upscale service apartment building, Above Eleven offers a very comprehensive menu of cocktails starting at 300 baht. Count around 200 baht for a beer. Relaxed and jazzy atmosphere, and possibility to have a bite to eat. Very popular with night owls in the neighborhood, the place is often crowded on Friday and Saturday evenings because it is not very big. Particularity: do not miss the visit of men’s toilets!

Sky bar, Sirocco, Alfresco 67 at Lebua Tower, Silom Road

The most famous of the Rooftop bars is undoubtedly located on the roof of the Lebua Tower. The Sky Bar and the Sirocco restaurant, side by side, indeed form a duo that has become legendary since their spectacular appearance in the second episode of the Very Bad Trip trilogy, Hangover 2, which takes place in Thailand

Uptade September 2017: always higher with Alfresco 64

Owned by Chivas whiskey label, Alfresco Bar 64 is on the 64th floor of Lebua State Tower, the same golden-domed hotel that holds “Sky Bar,” the rooftop bar featured in The Hangover 2. The view of the entire city and the Chao Phraya River is breathtaking while the expensive cocktails are made by seasoned mixologists. Ransom of success, expect not to be the only ones to want to take pictures, the place is touristy as you wish. Proper attire required (do not go in flip flops and shorts)

Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar, Banyan Tree, Sathorn Road

Located on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree hotel, on Sathorn business avenue, Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar is the direct competitor of the Sky Bar. With its dizzying view and the high quality of its menu, this Rooftop bar and restaurant has everything to guarantee an unforgettable evening in Bangkok. For a dinner, count at least 3000 to 4000 baht per person. As a bonus, it is slightly less touristy than its neighbor on Silom Road

Park Society, Sofitel So, Sathorn Road

At first sight, located only on the 29th floor, Park Society is far from the panoramic quality of its competitors. However, ideally located at the beginning of Sathorn Avenue, it offers a unique view of the city. From the terrace, you can easily see the skyscrapers of the Siam and Ploenchit districts, but above all the green heart of Bangkok, Lumphini Park, directly below. Park Society is one of the best places in town to watch the sunset and the gradual illumination of the city

Octave Rooftop Lounge & Bar, the Marriot Hotel, Sukhumvit Road

One of the most luxurious and impressive Rooftop bars in Sukhumvit, on the 45th floor of the Marriot hotel, between the Thonglor and Ekkamai BTS stations, this vast set includes several atmospheres. Octave Rooftop Lounge & Bar includes a restaurant area with private rooms, a bar and a lounge on the top floor. At the top, a DJ ensures a relaxed atmosphere while customers enjoy the breathtaking 360 degree view of Bangkok

Red Sky at Centara Grand, Central World, Rama 1 Road

When we wander inside the largest Thai mall, we do not suspect that above our heads hides a Rooftop Bar of character. Located on the roof of the hotel part of Central World, Red Sky lives up to its name: the atmosphere and the decoration are focused on red. With a panoramic bar section and above all a restaurant section run by a French chef, Red Sky offers a top-of-the-range menu in line with French luxury. Mandatory reservation

Cielo Sky bar & Restaurant

Close to the Phra Khanong BTS station, its remote location allows Cielo Sky Bar & Restaurant to enjoy a view of all the skyscrapers of Sukhumvit Avenue, as well as Bangkok’s green lung, Ban Kachao. With its unobstructed view due east, this Rooftop bar also offers one of the best locations to enjoy the sunset. Another unique attraction, a glass platform in the middle of the bar allows you to walk above the void! The swimming pool is 150 meters below

Nest Rooftop Bar, the Fenix Hotel, Sukhumvit Road, soi 11

One of the streets in the city with the best nightclubs, Sukhumvit soi 11 is also home to an out-of-the-ordinary Rooftop Bar, ideal before hitting the dance floor. The asset of the Nest (Nid) is not so much its view as its comfort and its relaxed atmosphere. You just feel good there. To be convinced, you have to have taken advantage of their beds (!) with your other half while sipping one of the many cocktails on the menu, or come with friends to warm up your ears to the sound of their resident Djs

342 Bar, Baan Wanglang Hotel, Prannok Road, Soi Wat Rakang

Who said you had to be high up to get a good view? In our selection, 342 bar contradicts this received idea. Located on the Thonburi side of Bangkok, directly on the edge of the Chao Phraya, this charming little bar on the 5th floor offers a peaceful view of the river, the skyscrapers in the distance and the lights of the Grand Palace (Wat Phra Kaew), on the bank opposite. Unique atmosphere and view

Zoom Sky Bar &  Restaurant, Anantara Bangkok Sathorn, Narathiwat – Ratchanakarin Road

With its 360 degree view from the 40th floor of an Anantara hotel, Zoom Sky Bar & Restaurant is worth the trip. When you add to this panorama a menu featuring French, Italian and Asian dishes, as well as a fine wine and cocktail list, this Rooftop Bar is an excellent alternative to its neighbors Sky Bar and Vertigo
